Facials/ IPL Photofacials Q & A

What are the Benefits of Facials?

In addition to being a relaxing and pampering experience, a facial can help to address some minor skin concerns caused by a build-up of dead skin cells including clogged pores and a dull aged appearance. Exfoliation, the cornerstone of any good facial, can be done with astringents, masks or peels, strips away dead skin cells, revealing fresh new skin, with a firmer, tighter look. The expert estheticians at RB Laser Lipo & Aesthetics will discuss the facial options available with you and help you to choose the treatment that will be best for your skin type and concerns.

What is an IPL photofacial?

An IPL photofacial is a noninvasive laser therapy that uses intense pulsed light (IPL); the light travels below your skin without harming the surface area. The therapy then sets to work in two ways: It destroys problem cells or pigments and signals your body to produce more collagen. Once the pulsed light laser destroys the cells or pigment in the target area, your body naturally processes and flushes them out through your lymphatic system.

While your body works to eliminate the destroyed pigment and cells, it’s also ramping up production of collagen to replace them with healthy new ones. This increased collagen production leads to increased elasticity and improved skin tone.

What can be treated with an IPL photofacial?

The medspa specialists at RB Laser Lipo & Aesthetics perform IPL photofacials as both full service or spot treatments for the following problems:

  • Vascular conditions (burst blood vessels)
  • Hypertrichosis
  • Pigmented lesions (dark spots, age spots, blemishes, freckles)
  • Stretch marks
  • Birthmarks
  • Epidermal and dermal atrophy associated with photo damage
  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Actinic keratosis

The technique can also be used on your face, hands, and neck.

How many treatments do I need?

This depends on the type of facial you would like to receive. If you wash your face and take good care of your skin, you should only need to get a facial every three months.

If you want to get rid of a sunspot or two, you should consider a photofacial. Dr. Bush and his team at RB Laser Lipo & Aesthetics can perform the laser procedure in one visit in under 20 minutes, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the “lunch-time treatment.” If you’re treating a wider area, you may require a series of 30-minute visits to reach your goals.

During your initial visit, your medspa specialist sits down with you to discuss your goals and how many treatments it will take to achieve the best results possible.

Dr. Bush recommends three to five treatments for optimal results as best results can be seen after several treatments, spaced out every four to six weeks. The benefits of photorejuvenation treatments are achieved with little discomfort and minimal risk. You’ll love the fact that no recovery time is required so you can go right back to work after your IPL treatment.

How Can I Maintain the Effects of My Facial?

You should always practice good skin care habits including daily cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. It is also a good idea to exfoliate and pamper yourself with a face mask formulated for your skin type to pamper yourself at home once a week. You should also always wear sunscreen and limit the time your skin is exposed to the sun. Maintaining overall good health will also help to improve the appearance of your skin, so eat a healthy and balanced diet, drink at least two liters of water a day, take regular exercise and do not smoke.
