Everything You Need to Know About IPL Photofacials

IPL Photofacials RB Laser Lipo & Aesthetics Palm Desert California

When it comes to aging skin, wrinkles are often considered enemy number one. But those increasing blemishes that pile up on on your skin as the years go by are equally to blame. To clear away the wreckage, an IPL photofacial is your ticket to smoother, more even and youthful-looking skin.

Here at RB Laser Lipo & Aesthetics, our estheticians, under the experienced guidance of Dr. Ronald Bush, operate under one mission: to provide our Palm Desert, California, clients with the tools they need to look their very best. As part of our cutting-edge arsenal of laser services, we’re pleased to offer the IPL photofacial, a light-based laser therapy that works magic on skin blemishes of all kinds.

Here’s everything you need to know about our IPL photofacials.

The mounting problem

There are many factors that contribute to aging skin, with the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays leading the charge — and there are plenty of those here in the desert! To start, the radiation in the UV rays prematurely breaks down your skin cells, which can lead to wrinkled, sagging skin. But the sun’s influence doesn’t stop there.

Prolonged exposure can also cause a host of pigment and vascular problems, such as age spots, freckles, and facial veins, which tend to pop up on the most exposed areas of your skin — chiefly your face, neck, and hands. The occurrence of brown spots also tends to increase with age, largely due to the years of exposure as well as the behavior of your melanin, which starts to cluster, forming those unsightly discolorations.

Aside from the sun, rosacea and acne can also wreak havoc on your skin, not necessarily in terms of aging, as these conditions can mottle the otherwise smooth surface of your skin at any age.

Fighting light with light

In order to fight back against skin blemishes and uneven skin tone, we turn to a technique that employs intense pulses of light that travel into your skin to target the pigment-producing cells below the surface. We use an IPL photofacial to clear away these areas of hyperpigmentation by breaking them up to reveal more evenly toned skin underneath.

The IPL system also works well against facial veins and rosacea as the intense beams of light close off and break up the tiny, dilated blood vessels that have crept toward the surface of your skin. If you’re worried about disturbing your circulation, fear not. If any of these veins are active, your blood reroutes itself through healthier vessels deeper in your tissue.

Clearing the way

One of the first questions our clients ask is how many treatments they’ll need and when they will see results. There’s no single answer to this question, as it depends upon what we’re treating. For example, if you’re targeting just a small problem, one treatment may suffice. If you want to address a larger area, you should count on a series of treatments, typically 3-5.

The great thing about IPL treatments is that they’re noninvasive, which means there’s no downtime afterward. Each treatment is generally less than an hour, and you can go back to your day without skipping a beat.

We space your treatments out by 4-6 weeks to allow time for your body to go to work, so your results will be gradual as your body expels the old, damaged cells. One of the wonderful side effects of an IPL photofacial is that as we’re clearing away your blemishes, we’re also eliciting a collagen response, which will help rebuild healthier skin from the inside out.
